The busy industrial port of Batangas is a major transport hub, both for buses and for ferries to Puerto Galera and a few other ports on Mindoro and Romblon. There’s little else of interest to travellers.

There’s no need to stay overnight unless you are unfortunate enough to miss the last ferry. If you get stuck, try Travellers Hotel ( GOOGLE MAP ; %043-723 2309; New Access Rd; s/d P900/1200; aW), a nondescript but comfortable and reasonably priced option with clean rooms fitted with cable TV and air-con. It’s one of several hotels about 1km from the port.

Most Batangas–bound buses from Manila go to the pier but double-check with your driver. Make sure you get on an express bus to the pier via the speedy SLEX and STAR expressways (P180, 1½ hours). These are signed ‘Batangas Pier’ and/or ‘derecho’ (straight). Pick up buses to Manila right at the pier.
